These prestigious awards are presented at the Membership Meeting each year at the Annual Conference. Whether it’s contributions to the industry, innovative products, compliant safety program, or giving back to the community, companies and individuals deserve to be recognized for a job well done.

2024 McCawley Award Recipients:

Bob Pope

This year’s honor was awarded to Bob Pope of MRCA.

Bob Pope’s remarkable journey in the roofing industry began in 1979 with the Sheet Metal and Roofing Contractors Association of the Miami Valley in Dayton, Ohio. Through economic challenges in the 1980s, he helped contractors secure stable health and retirement benefits, and he advocated for pension reforms to support their futures. In 1985, he co-founded the Ohio Roofing Contractors Association, dedicated solely to advancing roofing professionals through safety, education, and advocacy. His work expanded to Central Ohio in 1999, where he strengthened labor relations, established new local institutions, and fostered growth in the contractor community. Since joining the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association in 2015, Bob has stabilized its finances, led strategic planning, and supported technical initiatives to bolster industry standards. For his unwavering dedication, personal mentorship, and transformative leadership, Bob Pope is honored as the recipient of the 2024 McCawley Award. Congratulations to a very deserving Roofing Professional!

Naphis Mitchell-Reyes: Excellent Safety Professional Award

Naphis

In October of 2021, MRCA lost our dear friend, respected colleague, and Board member, Naphis Mitchell-Reyes.

Those of us lucky enough to have known Naphis, know that he was a man who valued honor, truth, and family above all else. Always seeking excellence in all his endeavors; he would say "I will never stop learning." He was loved by every person that met him; he will forever be remembered in our hearts.

We are proud to introduce the Naphis Mitchell-Reyes Excellent Safety Professional Award. This award recognizes roofing safety professionals who exemplify the values that we most respect in Naphis Mitchell-Reyes.

The winner of this award must demonstrate a passion for safety, as well as a vast knowledge and understanding of safety and a drive to create an authentic safety culture for their company or clients. MRCA knows that like Naphis, this award is special, and it will not be awarded every year, but only when the nominee truly embodies the wonderful qualities that Naphis always shared with us.

Congratulations to Brock Hamre on receiving the Naphis Mitchell-Reyes: Excellent Safety Professional Award.
