Meet Our Speakers!

Doug JenksDoug Jenks is a director with Auman, Mahan & Furry. He counsels employers regarding industrial accidents, focusing mostly on workers' compensation and OSHA defense. He also handles general business litigation and insurance defense claims.

During Doug's session, OSHA Knocking at the Door:New National Emphasis Programs & OSHA Inspections, he will describe several new national emphasis programs that allow OSHA to conduct inspections even without a complaint or injury at your jobsite. He will also discuss how an employer can prepare for these NEPs and how to respond if and when OSHA shows up to conduct an inspection.

Marvin Montgomery PictureOur Keynote Speaker, Marvin Montgomery, has earned widespread national recognition and praise for more than 30 years for his informative, practical and stimulating programs that reflect his basic philosophy: “Preparation and practice are the keys to sales success.” Marvin began his career with one of the nation’s largest jewelry chains and worked his way up to the director of sales position. It was here that Marvin began refining his approach to training. Since that time, Marvin’s captivating presentations have assisted hundreds of organizations to meet or exceed their sales goals using his training programs.

Marvin will share the rules of customer engagement to alleviate pressure and demonstrate care, emphasizing benefits, active listening, and strategic questioning for becoming a Trusted Advisor. The objective is to equip participants with essential skills for a positive initial approach, fostering long-term customer relationships and improving Close Rates.

Tom ElliottTom Elliott, Director of Industry Development and Technical Services with the International Masonry Institute, is a journey-level craftworker who joined the masonry industry in 1985 as an apprentice bricklayer for BAC Local 5 in Cleveland, Ohio. Throughout his time in the industry, he has worked as a journey-level bricklayer, project foreman, and field superintendent on larger masonry projects in Ohio and surrounding states. He also served as a project manager for a restoration contractor and oversaw the restoration of several historic structures. Previously, he managed his own mason contracting business and helped to negotiate local labor contracts as a board member of the Northeast Ohio Contractors Association.

Masonry has been an important component in structural systems since the beginning of time. During Tom's session, The Evolution of Structural Masonry, he will review the construction of structural masonry buildings from the late 1800’s to today with an emphasis on how current masonry materials when combined with recent code changes and trained craftworkers, can lead to more efficient structural masonry designs.

Paul Oldham Head ShotPaul Oldham has 30 years of experience in the Construction and Masonry Industry.  Wearing many hats over the years after earning a Engineering Degree working as a GC, Owners Representative, Draftsmen, Project Manager, Project Engineer, Carpenter, and of course a Mason Contractor.  He was taught early in his career to give back to what gives to you, so he has spent most of his years volunteering within the Industry. Serving on Indiana Mason Contractors Association, Ohio Masonry Association, Tri-State Masonry Association and serving on multiple committees with MCAA and eight years on the Executive Board at MCAA.  Today Paul is still active in these organizations, but when the opportunity to serve on the Region 3 RAC for the CMU Check-Off program came about, he had to say yes.  Paul spent many trips to DC and legislative offices over the years gaining support for the Check-Off initiative.  Paul is also very active in his local YMCA serving on the board for the past 8 years and currently is the Board President.   Paul grew up outside Memphis Tennessee attending CBHS, then attending the University of Evansville and after college married his wife Lisa and they have three children and couldn’t do what he does without them.

Paul will be giving an update regarding the CMU Check-Off program and able to answer any questions pertaining to the program.
